Staff Product Engineer

Role Overview**

Surge AI is hiring a Staff Product Engineer for a senior, hands-on role focused on owning the direction and execution of critical products supporting modern AI development.

You'll work with engineering leaders and researchers to build products for advanced AI training, with significant autonomy over technical and product decisions.

Responsibilities

Develop AI-powered solutions to improve annotation efficiency.

Build intuitive interfaces for data exploration and visualization, including RLHF tools.

Design and implement large-scale data processing systems for AI training and evaluation.

Build interactive products that communicate complex instructions to the workforce.

Develop products for collecting and analyzing human feedback for RLHF and other AI training methods.

Requirements**

7+ years of experience building and shipping production software.

Experience leading projects involving significant scope and ambiguity.

Strong product-focused mindset with a focus on rapid delivery and solving real-world problems.

Commitment to making AI safer and more useful.

Excellent communication skills, particularly around technical decisions and trade-offs.

Startup experience; early-stage engineering or founder experience is strongly preferred.

Experience with Python or Ruby on Rails, plus React/TypeScript.

CS degree from a top school or equivalent STEM background.
